Psychological testing is intended to answer specific questions, such as:
·
Does my
child have ADHD?
·
What kind of
treatment program is best for my drug abusing daughter?
·
How do I
deal with my elderly mother’s increasing memory problems?
·
Which parent
is best suited to take care of the children?
·
Why do I
have trouble getting along with people at work?
·
Why has my
spouse, or child, or parent’s behavior changed all of a sudden?
·
What is the
best career choice for me?
·
Why is my
child having trouble in school?
·
Does my
child qualify for Gifted & Talented or other specialized education
services?
Where do we start? You might
have been referred for an evaluation by a physician, a therapist, a
teacher, an attorney, or employer, or you may have referred yourself.
The first step is to get perfectly clear as to the purpose of the
evaluation. Who will read the report? What will the results be used for?
Once that is determined, I can select the appropriate tests and measures
to use to answer the questions. The report will be written with both the
purpose of the testing and the intended reader(s) clearly in mind.
·
Answers to
referral questions are presented in plain, jargon-free language. You
will come away with a useful, practical report that clearly explains the
findings, and recommends specific ways the information can be of direct
benefit to you.
·
I maintain a
large library of psychological tests and select ones that specifically
address the referral questions. I do not use a canned battery of
one-size-fits-all tests. I use computerized testing, when appropriate,
to save time and reduce costs
·
I test
clients wherever it’s most appropriate and convenient. Clients can be
tested in my office, at home, in the hospital, at the workplace, even in
jail. I prefer to start assessments early in the day, especially
with children.
·
Not all that
clear what you want to learn from an evaluation or what might be
involved? Call me at (240) 277-7800,
email me,
or fill out and send me a
Referral Form.
I look forward to being helpful to you. · If we decide to work together, I’ll ask you to read the Welcome to My Practice letter that details my policies and fees; to sign the Consent for Services agreement, and to fill out and bring with you to the testing session the Client Background Questionnaire.
